2010 Plan of Work

Policy research and development

  • Secure funding for a study of economic impacts of the shortage of affordable housing.
  • Develop recommendations—
    • To strengthen housing code enforcement
    • To preserve market rate affordable units identified as at risk by County staff
    • To improve the competitive position of applications from Northern Virginia for federal low-income housing tax credits
    • To streamline the site-plan approval process, particularly for smaller projects
    • To establish a long-range, affordable-housing budget for the County

Public education

  • Conduct the Eighth Annual Leckey Forum and the Annual Faith Community Affordable Housing Forum.
  • Broaden public understanding of affordable housing issues through educational programs.
  • Increase awareness and use of AHS web site and publications as sources of information about affordable housing.

Outreach

  • Strengthen ties to AHS sponsors and bring sponsors up-to-date on affordable housing projects through the Annual Sponsors’ Meeting.
  • Strengthen coordination among affordable housing advocacy groups.
  • Recognize exemplary programs through the Annual Ellen Bozman Affordable Housing Award.

Advocacy

  • Support sound affordable housing proposals and County policies and budget.
  • Continue to facilitate discussion among affordable housing developers, interested parties, and County staff.
